The Americanism Program of Service promotes pride in our country, appreciation for the freedoms granted to American citizens, and gratitude to the men and women who serve/have served in the Armed Forces. Americanism celebrates the country’s rich, unique heritage and inspires unity from coast-to-coast.

If this cause is something you would like to become involved in along with the Exchange Club of Charleston, please contact one of our members or check our calendar and plan to attend one of our lunch meetings as a guest!

PROGRAM OF SERVICE EXAMPLES

Donate and Install Freedom Shrines in Schools and other Public Spaces!

The Freedom Shrine originated from the Freedom Train. This train toured the nation in 1947 carrying an exhibit of famous "documents of liberty" such as the United States Constitution and Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. The tour was conceived to give Americans the opportunity to reflect on the meaning of American citizenship. The documents included were carefully chosen to exemplify the beginnings of our nation and the subsequent important United States turning points.

Proudly We Hail

Exchange encourages all Americans to properly fly the flag as an ongoing, highly visible expression of that respect through the Proudly We Hail program. Proudly We Hail honors those Americans who do display the nation’s banner properly and regularly. Recognition is in the form of a beautiful plaque specially designed to honor the expression of honor.

PROJECT GIVE A KID A FLAG TO WAVE

Just as its tongue-twisting title suggests, this popular projects involves the distribution of small American flags to youngsters at parades, fairs, picnics, school events or other community happenings that generate large crowds. The Exchange Club of Charleston gives away hundreds of flags every year at the Coastal Carolina Fair. The flags are absolutely free to the children and can make a great souvenir of the occasion.
